What Is The Best Yoga Class For Me?

How do you know the best yoga class to take? There are so many different styles of yoga that it can be tough to figure out which one is the right one. Yoga has found acceptance in society and we have seen a proliferation of clubs offering classes for different yoga disciplines.

It will be interesting to note that there is more to yoga than the uninitiated may at first think, and that the poses are not all the simple and unmoving one that we see in posters and pictures but can be strenuous and complicated. The beginner should not just join the first class that comes along but to be selective and look for guidelines. First, ask yourself what you want out of the yoga class. What does one expect out of it? Is it for the attainment of peace and quiet by meditation?

It could be that you want a yoga discipline that delves into the spiritual things. Next ask what is your primary goal for taking a class? Are you contemplating a particular objective? An end that you would like to achieve? In other words, do you want to lose weight? Strengthen your body and mind? Or are you looking to improve your overall health?

The newcomer should request for assistance and guidance from a mentor. There are always mentors in a yoga class ready to give guidance. If you've already studied yoga and are looking for a new class or want to get more in depth training, then you'd be better off seeking someone who teaches the art. Remember that the trainer is only as qualified as the knowledge he or she has about your physical condition.

The more intense types of yoga are difficult so you should exercise caution when attempting it. Get the okay from your family doctor if you have a pre-existing medical condition that yoga might aggravate. Yoga postures and exercises can be good for some maladies, but can be bad and will aggravate other medical conditions if the yoga teacher is not properly informed. Don't expect to 'get' yoga after a couple of classes. It is a long time proposition requiring self discipline and patience. New adherents of yoga should choose the easy and less demanding Kripalu until they are ready for the heavier yoga types. Once they get the hang of yoga, they can try the Ashtanga or Iyengar which are more complex and offer more challenges.

When trying to decide what the best yoga class is for you to take, always remember, that you can start out slow, with a gentler yoga and move up once you get the hang of that one.

All forms of yoga are one in their lofty aim of creating a sense of harmony and perfection of the personality. The hardest part is getting started, but once you learn the discipline, you'll be pleased with the end results.
