Meditation and yoga have been the common techniques used by the western society over a period a time for relaxing and distressing. These involve various forms of mild exercises and relaxation techniques. The origin of these techniques is mainly India and other Asian countries. However, most of us today are unaware of their religious significance and importance in these countries. The history of yoga informs us about how meditation and yoga go hand in hand and how they influence and change the lives of people belonging to different nations. Meditation practiced along with yoga can help us realize the need of spiritual enlightenment and it can also be achieved through the same medium.

In Sanskrit language, Yoga refers to 'union' or a group of spiritual practices which were born and practiced in India. People in India, still continue to practice Yoga till today as a part of their tradition to attain power and enlightenment. Yoga has various forms, however the four most essential forms are Karma Yoga, Jnana Yoga, Raja Yoga, and Bhakti Yoga. The most popular form of Yoga is known as Hatha Yoga, which involves stretching techniques and various other forms of poses and postures. This form of Yoga is being practiced in different parts of the worlds to enhance body flexibility and endurance.

Essential information about Meditation and Yoga

Meditation and yoga can be performed in different forms in different parts of the world. In western society, one usually uses a tape or a DVD to follow the instructions on stretching or relaxation techniques and then gradually practice them on their own. However, if try to practice meditation and yoga at a religious level, the method would be completely different. A guru is needed to provide efficient knowledge and understanding of the various poses and postures. This guru is a spiritual leader who has attained enlightenment through his years of practice in meditation and yoga.

One can attain higher levels of spiritual enlightenment by regular practice of meditation and yoga. Yoga and meditation are not just practiced to achieve a sense of relaxation but also to find a better religious connection. By practicing the various different forms of yoga as mentioned above one can reach better levels of spiritual enlightenment. One can experience a closer connection with a supernatural being like God or angels or meditate and focus better over a thought or feeling. These practices have proved to show spiritual enlightenment among its practitioners over the past years.
